International Intellectual Property Week (International IP Week) was a brand new flagship event driven by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). IP-related organisations in Hong Kong joined forces for the first time in promoting Hong Kong advantages as the regional IP business hub. A series of conferences, exhibitions, seminars and workshops were held during the Week to facilitate international IP trading activities and exchanges between the global IP industry players.

 

NAMI Showcase
2 December 2013 • Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
Organised by NAMI (Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited) and HKTDC, the event showcased NAMI’s effort, achievements and visions in making Hong Kong a centre for nanotechnology and advanced materials innovations as well as to celebrate the successful collaborations with industry, professional bodies and trade organisations. Apart from a forum, there was a mini-exhibition area showcasing over 25 inventions that are looking for commercialisation.

With the theme of "A Greener and Smarter City through NAMI", more than 80 audiences came to witness NAMI's recent achievements.

Negotiating an International Intellectual Property Deal

Business negotiation involving intellectual property is an art that involves legal, business and technical know-how. Jointly organised by Licensing Executives Society China Hong Kong Sub-Chapter (LESC-HK) and HKTDC, the seminar covered topics on how to strengthen the position of companies through IP deal and terms to negotiate in an international IP deal.

The event attracted more than 70 audiences.

Startup Clinic: Patent Application Grant Briefing and 1-on-1 Consultation

In an attempt to promote and develop innovation in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Government has implemented a funding scheme whereby any Hong Kong resident or Hong Kong Company can apply for a grant to cover up to 90% of their patenting costs. This grant is called the Patent Application Grant (PAG) and it is administrated by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) through the implementation of the Hong Kong Productive Council (HKPC). Jointly organised by Hong Kong Cyberport and Marks & Clerk Hong Kong, the workshop “Startup Clinic: Patent Application Grant Briefing and 1-on-1 Consultation” covered topics on Tips & Tricks and free 1-on-1 Consultation on applying PAG.

Around 30 audiences attended the briefing session and over 10 1-on-1 Consultations were arranged.

InnoAsia 2013

Organised by Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC), InnoAsia was a four-day conference themed “Towards a smart green city agenda”. The conference played an important role in knowledge transfer and business matching, linking a circle of leading academics, experts, decision makers and thought leaders from across disciplines and geographical boundaries to exchange insights on energy optimisation, renewable resources, carbon footprints reduction, green architecture, advanced robotics, healthcare and transportation system, to make our city and the world smarter, and greener.

With more than 2,000 audiences, the four-day conference proved to be a huge success.

Business of IP Asia Forum

Jointly organised by The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Design Centre, Business of IP Asia Forum brought IP professionals and business leaders together to discuss the latest developments in Asia’s IP market.

Building on the success of the previous editions, the Forum returned in 2013 with an expanded two-day schedule. StartmeupHK Venture Forum

At the Venture Forum on 5 December, 12 finalist entrepreneurs from Canada, Hong Kong, India, Israel, New Zealand and the US pitched their ideas to a panel of judges and assembled crowd of angel investors, venture capitalists, overseas and local business communities.

More than 500 audiences came to witness the birth of the three Grand Award winners, visionary entrepreneurs who are hoping to expand their business globally, and change the world. After two final rounds of judging, the champions went to entrepreneurs from New Zealand, the US and Hong Kong.
